Boulder TMJ Symptoms
Your Chronic Pain Might be Originating in Your Bite!
We think that way too many people walk around with a headache or neck and back pain everyday, popping pain killers and trying to maintain a normal life in spite of constant discomfort.
Are you one of them? You could be suffering from TMJ disorder.
We believe that there is a direct relationship between oral health and this kind of chronic pain. Dr. Lisa Kalfas has spent many years studying and working with patients who suffer from headaches and chronic upper body pain and has found that these issues are frequently linked to occlusal or bite alignment problems and temporomandibular joint disease (also known as TMD or TMJ).
A triad of factors affect your bite — the teeth, the muscles and the temporomandibular joints, and those who suffer from TMJ have an imbalance in their jaw-to-skull relationship, caused by a bad bite.
If you suffer from any of the following symptoms, you may be a perfect candidate for TMJ treatment and neuromuscular dentistry:
- Headaches or migraines
- Unexplained loose teeth
- Worn, chipped or cracked teeth
- Cracking, chipping or breaking dental restorations
- Pain or soreness around the jaw joints
- Neck, shoulder, facial or back pain
- Clicking or grating sounds in the jaw joints
- Numbness in your fingers and arms
- Congestion or stuffiness of the ears
- Hearing loss
- Ringing in the ears
